CPI inflation surges to 3-years high of 5.54% in November 2019.
20-Apr-2022CPI inflation has risen to 5.54% in November 2019, staying above RBI's medium-term inflation target of 4% (+/-2). The spike in retail inflation was primarily led by a steep rises in prices of vegetables, such as onions, and pulses. The CPI food price index posted double digit y-o-y growth at 10.01% as vegetable prices increased by 36% over last year and the prices in overall food basket continue to post an uptick. Core inflation rose from 3.4% in October to 3.7% in November due to mild pick up in miscellaneous items inflation. Inflation in other categories continues to remain subdued reflecting prevailing weakness in demand in the economy.
