CPI inflation surges to 7.35% in December’19
20-Apr-2022
The headline inflation rose well beyond expectations and upper bound of RBI’s inflation target to touch a more than 5 year high of 7.35% in the month of December. The surge was largely attributable to double digit rise in y-o-y food price inflation at 14.12%. Core inflation also registered a mild uptick to 3.8% as against 3.6% in the previous month. Apart from elevated vegetable prices, a low base effect also exacerbated the headline inflation number.
